Process to build up a text
Tasks and analysis of text type
1. Exchange of material & successful practices
Arantza: some materials + photocopies of projects' procedures and daily routines
2. Today's topic: Written skills. Process to build up a text (II)
This time we are going to reflect on materials and tools
our students will need in each step of the writing process. To do so, we will follow the whole process, starting by setting up the task to be accomplished and analyzing how to work on examples of text type.
Step 1: Setting up a task.
We can choose it from curriculum topics, children's interests, social issues, an event or any recent incident.
Our task will be to make the digital Big Book of Inventors and Inventions. Thus, the writing task will be to write the biography of the inventor and the description of the invention, justifying why it has made a difference in human life.
Some examples of writing tasks can be found at
(see "Useful references" section below). One of them is
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
writing original songs (to familiar tunes)
that help our environment"
In this lesson, students will use a song by Jack Johnson to develop ideas about how
to “green” up their own classrooms, learning two songs (written to the tune of old classics) that will inspire them to brainstorm ideas for reducing, reusing, and recycling in school. Then, inspired by Bill Martin Jr.'s
Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?
, students will create a classroom “Green Guide Book,” listing ideas that the teacher and the students are willing to adopt and use as part of the classroom greening. Older students can then create original songs about "greening up" their schools, inspired by tunes of familiar songs.

Step 2: Analyzing examples of text type
